Weather alert for Lowcountry until Saturday evening

A special weather statement was released by the NWS Charleston SC on Saturday at 2:46 p.m. until 7 p.m. The alert is for Inland Colleton, Inland Berkeley, Inland Jasper, Coastal Colleton, Coastal Jasper and Tidal Berkeley as well as Dorchester, Beaufort and Charleston counties.
"Hot and humid conditions will persist across portions of the South Carolina Lowcountry and Southeast Georgia through the evening hours. The combination of temperatures in the 90s and moderate levels of humidity will yield heat indices of 104 to 108 degrees through sunset. Those enjoying outdoor holiday festivities should use extra caution. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and shelter yourself from the sunshine. Be sure to help each other out. Check on neighbors, relatives and the elderly," states the NWS.

This alert is in effect until 7 p.m.
