Here’s the latest on Imelda’s expected storm impacts to Myrtle Beach area

Confidence continues to increase that Tropical Storm Imelda will miss the Myrtle Beach area shore with limited impacts to the Grand Strand, according to the National Weather Service.

The primary threat the storm currently poses is hazardous maritime conditions beginning Monday that is likely to cause rough surf/rip currents, the NWS reports, with minor potential for flooding through Tuesday in low-lying areas along the coast.

Waterspouts are also possible Monday and Tuesday, according to the latest NWS update.

Rainfall predictions continue to trend downward with just up to 1 inch expected through Tuesday evening in the Myrtle Beach coastal areas and less rain inland.

Tropical storm force winds are expected to remain off the coast, and Imelda is unlikely to directly cause storm surge, NWS reports.

As impacts for the storm have diminished, most government agencies, including Horry County and Horry County Schools announced they’re operating on normal schedules this week.
