As the Myrtle Beach area faces cold temperatures Thursday, along with freezing rain, there’s a potential for power outages in Horry County.

The National Weather Service’s Wilmington, North Carolina, office listed Horry County under a winter weather advisory through 10 a.m. Thursday and a cold weather advisory for Thursday into Friday morning.

Temperatures are expected to drop Thursday and get to a low of 20 degrees Thursday night. Wind chills will be 10 degrees to 15 degrees Thursday night into Friday morning. Freezing rain Wednesday created ice accumulations along the Grand Strand.

Thousands were without power Thursday morning after a vehicle hit a utility pole, causing about 27,000 people in the Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach areas to be affected. Power has been restored in the areas, according to Tracy Vreeland, public relations specialist for Santee Cooper.
