Summer in winter: Myrtle Beach area to set temperature record. How hot will it get?
It may seem like summer in winter this weekend, as the Grand Strand is expected to tie a record for the warmest day in February set 66 years ago.
While it is still not warm enough for a swim in the ocean, the temperatures will be perfect for a trip to the beach.
It’s expected to reach 74 degrees on Sunday, which will tie the record set in 1959, according to Tim Armstrong, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The sea breeze will keep the temperatures a little cooler along the coast, but inland, in the Conway area, residents can expect the temperatures to be closer to 80 degrees, Armstrong said.
“(The start of February) is approaching records for the most warm days we’ve seen,” Armstrong said.
While January was cold, the first 10 days of February has been at or above 65 degrees, he said.
But, unfortunately, things will begin to cool off again. A cold front will move through the area, making the start of the week chillier, Armstrong said.
