Pull out those winter coats. It’ll be ‘really’ cold in Myrtle Beach area. What to expect
The Myrtle Beach area will experience a cold snap Sunday and Monday, as temperatures are expected to drop into the teens.
And while the cold temperatures are not welcome news, it’s the wind chill that will be the biggest concern, according to NWS meteorologist Victoria Oliva.
Wind chills Sunday morning may reach 5 to 10 degrees, according to the NWS.
“It will be really cold,” Olivia said. “We get these cold snaps every few years.”
Horry County Emergency Management is advising residents to take precautions to stay warm, bring in pets, protect their water pipes and avoid long term exposure outside.
Temperatures are supposed to be about 18 to 19 degrees Sunday and Monday mornings, the NWS said.
However, it’s not the record low for the Myrtle Beach area.
That would be 14 and 15 degrees for the Myrtle Beach area. North Myrtle Beach has a record low of 18 degrees, Oliva said.
Still, with that low of temperatures, don’t expect any snow because the area is too dry, Oliva said. She also doesn’t expect there will be large amounts of ice on the roads, but there may be some frost on the car windshields Sunday and Monday mornings, she said.
But while it might be cold now, residents can expect the temperatures to climb back up next week, possibly reaching in the upper 70s by Friday, Oliva said.
