State transportation officials have closed a portion of S.C. Highway 31 overpass near the Robert Edge Parkway in North Myrtle Beach to repair Idalia-related damage.

Kelly Moore, an. S.C. Department of Transportation spokeswoman said panels alongside the bridge that provide slope protection need to be replaced, but the span itself remains structurally sound.

“Depending on weather, crews will begin work in the coming week to repair the concrete panels. We encourage drivers in the area to use caution when traveling through the work zone and be alert for crews working alongside the roadway,” Moore said in an email.
