Storm debris and puddles were the only signs Thursday morning along the South Strand that Tropical Storm Idalia had blown through overnight.

Marsh reeds covered much of the ground along the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet, but all the restaurants and boats appeared to have escaped unscathed.

“It’s a mess,” Joshua Stringer said, as some debris crunched beneath his bike tires Thursday morning, “but I’ve seen it worse after other storms.”

A few miles north along the coast, residents and visitors in Garden City had already returned to normal activities with heavy foot traffic on the beach and a few surfers taking advantage of the storm’s aftermath, leaving behind increased waves.

The streets near The Pier at Garden City had reportedly flooded Wednesday night as the center of Tropical Storm Idalia approached, but water levels had completely receded by early Thursday.
