A strong cold front is expected to bring dropping temperatures and strong winds into the Myrtle Beach area through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Localized wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated tornadoes are possible today, according to the latest weather briefing. Minor coastal flooding along area beaches with high tide is expected.

A strong cold front will move through Northeast SC and Southeast NC on Friday and will bring gusty winds of 40 to 50 mph, according to the briefing, which was sent out Thursday morning.

Strong offshore winds in the wake of the front are expected to result in blow-out tides and low water conditions Friday and Saturday.

Arctic air will spread across the region on Friday and will stay in place through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Very cold temperatures in the late teens are expected overnight from Friday to possibly Sunday, before warming occurs.
