More than 4,500 without power in Horry County as winter storm hits Myrtle Beach area

More than 4,500 people in the North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach and Little River areas of Horry County are without power as a winter storm hits the area, according to Santee Cooper.

Local leaders warned residents of possible power outages as the storm was forecast to bring cold temperatures and possible freezing rain, sleet and snow to Horry County. More than 3,000 people in North Myrtle Beach and Little River have been affected, according to the electric company. Around 1,500 people in the Myrtle Beach area are without power.

Crews are en route and the cause is being investigated.

Power is estimated to be restored around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to Santee Cooper.
