Here’s how hot it will be in Myrtle Beach this week and how to stay safe
It’s going to be hot this week, Myrtle Beach.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina issued a heat advisory in Horry and Georgetown counties Monday as the area could see heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees.
The Myrtle Beach area is expected to have a high temperature around 90 degrees during this week, though it could feel warmer. This week’s low temperatures are around 78, the NWS reports. By the weekend, forecasters say high temperatures could slightly drop to around 87 degrees on Saturday.
In addition to hot temperatures this week, there is a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, forecasters say.
Heat-related illness is possible during the afternoon hours, the NWS reports, and through Thursday.
There are three stages of heat-related illness — heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous activities and wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing can help prevent heat-related illnesses.
