Couple left 93-year-old without food, medical care, deputies say

Deputies arrested a husband and wife Friday after they say the man’s mother died of neglect.

Ted Keller, 67, and Tamera Keller, 51, turned themselves in to investigators at 4 p.m. Friday, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Officials say the two were caregivers for Ted Keller’s 93-year-old mother, and that they did not feed her on a regular basis for more than a year.

The couple also left the victim without proper medical care, and kept her in unfit living conditions, according to the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff Leon Lott said in a news release that the victim was incapacitated and relied on the Kellers due to health conditions.

Ted Keller contacted the sheriff’s department May 17 after finding his mother dead in bed, officials said.

The Kellers have been taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
