A deputy who was shot during a confrontation between a suspect and deputies in Taylors is in critical condition.

Drew Pinciaro, spokesperson for the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, says the deputy's injuries are worse than they initially thought.

The deputy was shot in the head during the December 10 confrontation. The suspect was killed.

Pinciaro says a round penetrated the deputy's skin and fractured his skull. He also says the round ricocheted and created a secondary wound as it exited.

The deputy is currently in the ICU in critical, but stable condition.

Charles Edward Rosemond Sr., 55, 1900 Boling Road Ext. Apt 16B, died from a gunshot wound to the leg during that confrontation with deputies, said Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the fatal shooting.
