Beaufort man held in 2009 attack on woman on her wedding eve

A South Carolina man faces charges after police say he severely beat a woman hours before her wedding in 2009.

Beaufort police say they arrested 31-year-old Said Perez and charged him with burglary and assault of a high and aggravated nature.

Perez was being held Sunday pending a bond hearing. He has no listed telephone number and Beaufort County jail officials say he did not have a lawyer.

Authorities say he broke into a cottage at the Beaufort Inn where the 26-year-old bride was staying and beat her, causing extensive facial injuries.

Police say they identified their suspect after matching DNA collected at the crime scene to a criminal database.
