Officer and another person shot overnight, South Carolina police say
A law enforcement officer and another person were shot Wednesday night, according to the West Columbia Police Department.
Both the West Columbia officer and the person called a “suspect” were taken to an area hospital, police said in a news release.
As of Wednesday night, both the officer and suspect were in stable condition, according to the release. Further information about their statuses was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident began at about 9:30 p.m., when officers responded to the 500 block of North Brown Street, police said. That’s in a part of Lexington County between U.S. 378/Sunset Boulevard and U.S. 1/Augusta Road, about 2 miles from the Gervais Street bridge and downtown Columbia.
There was no word about why police were called to North Brown Street.
Other than the shooting, information about what happened, and the number of people involved, when officers arrived was not available.
No arrests have been reported, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is leading the investigation, according to the release.
