Columbia man who died after being shot multiple times identified, suspect jailed

A man who was killed this week after police found him with multiple gunshot wounds has been identified.

Myron Schofield, 43, died after the Tuesday afternoon shooting in north Columbia, the Richland County Coroner’s Office said in a statement on Friday

On Tuesday afternoon, Columbia police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2000 block of Worthy Drive, police said in a news release. That’s in the area between S.C. 277 and U.S. 1/Two Notch Road.

Officers found Schofield shot multiple times, and he later died from the injuries he suffered in the gunfire, according to the release.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office publicly identified Schofield after a search to notify the shooting victim’s next of kin.

No other injuries were reported.

Steven Pringle, 33, was detained and later arrested in connection to the shooting, police said. Pringle was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, jail records show. No bond has been set and Pringle remains locked up in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to jail records.

There was no word about a motive for the shooting, but police said that they believe it was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Information about any connection between Pringle and Schofield before the shooting was not available.

Despite Pringle’s arrest, police are continuing to investigate the shooting as officers process evidence and gather additional information, according to the release.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
