One person killed in shooting, South Carolina sheriff says

One person was killed and another was taken into custody Saturday following a shooting in South Carolina, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Bryan Dargan, a 36-year-old Sumter County resident, was identified as the shooting victim, Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said Monday.

At about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office said deputies responded to reports of a shooting. The fatal shooting happened at about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Collins Street, according to Baker.

Deputies found a shooting victim and attempted to provide aid, but Dargan was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

No other injuries were reported.

No arrests have been reported, but the sheriff’s office said that a person of interest has been taken into custody. Information about any previous connection between the person of interest and Dargan was not available.

There was no word about a motive for the shooting, or if any other people were involved in the incident, but it continues to be investigated by both the sheriff’s office and coroner’s office. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Baker said.

The sheriff’s office called the shooting an isolated incident, saying “the community is not in danger.”
