Man out on bond for child sex crime arrested for sex act with dog, SC cops say

A South Carolina man already facing a charge of a sex crime against a child was arrested again for another sex crime, this time involving an animal, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacob Cannan Blalock was charged with buggery, a felony offense under South Carolina law involving sexual acts with an animal, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. When the 23-year-old arrested Tuesday, he also was charged with ill treatment of animals (torture), no visible rabies tags and four counts of cruelty to animals, Spartanburg County court records show.

The charges stem from a video that the sheriff’s office received April 8, according to the release. The video showed an individual engaged in a sexual act with an animal, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators identified Blalock as the person suspected of buggery and searched an Old Melvin Hill Road home, where evidence — including electronic devices — was seized, according to the release.

Two dogs were also taken into custody by Spartanburg County Animal Control, the sheriff’s office said.

Following a digital forensic examination and continued investigation, Blalock was arrested, according to the release. Bond was set at $10,000 on the combined charges and has not been posted, court records show.

Blalock is scheduled to return to court on those charges June 18, but is slated to appear before a judge on the other counts May 4, according to judicial records.

Despite the arrest, the sheriff’s office said it’s still investigating the crime and more charges are possible.

At the time of his arrest, Blalock was out on bond awaiting trial for sexual exploitation of a minor charges from a July 2025 arrest, court records show. He was charged with five counts of the third-degree sex crime, which are pending, according to court records.

His bond was set at $5,000 on each count, and was posted July 9, 2025, court records show.
