Driver killed and two other people hospitalized from head-on crash, SC cops say
One person was killed and two others were injured Wednesday in a head-on crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Conyetta Spearm Seymore, a 42-year-old Greenwood resident, died in what the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office called an accident.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 6:35 p.m. in Greenwood County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the Highway Patrol.
Seymore was driving a 2017 Nissan sedan south on Old Laurens Road, according to Bolt. Near the intersection with S.C. 246 the Nissan ran off the right side of Old Laurens Road, Bolt said.
The Nissan then overcorrected and swerved back onto the road, where it crossed left of the center line and was headed toward an oncoming 2006 Ford SUV that was driving south on Old Laurens Road, according to Bolt. The Ford driver tried to avoid a wreck and the SUV ran off the right side of the road, but the Nissan continued in that direction and collided head-on with the Ford, Bolt said.
Seymore, along with a driver and passenger in the Ford were taken to an area hospital, officials said. Seymore, who suffered blunt force trauma, died at the hospital at 7:28 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
Further information on the conditions of the Ford driver and passenger were not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt.
Information about what caused the Nissan to originally veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
Through Sunday, 93 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least three people have died in Greenwood County crashes this year, and five people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
