Woman arrested after child was hit by car that left crash scene, SC police say
A woman was arrested on multiple charges Monday, nearly a week after a 12-year-old child was a victim in a hit-and-run crash on a popular South Carolina road, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Shanekea Brown, 32, was charged with hit-and-run (minor injury), failure to give information and render aid as well as driving without a license, police said on social media.
The charges stem from a Dec. 9 collision in the 5200 block of Fairfield Road, police said. That’s in a part of Columbia between North Main Street and Monticello Road, close to Alcorn Middle School and several retail businesses.
A 12-year-old boy was walking across Fairfield Road when he was hit by a dark-colored sedan, according to police.
After hitting the pedestrian, the driver of the car left the scene, according to police.
Following the crash, the 12-year-old was taken to an area hospital and has since been released, according to police. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about how Brown was identified as the driver was not available. She was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Monday, police said. No bond has been set, and Brown remains locked up, jail records show.
