New wave of ‘No Kings’ Trump protests planned across SC soon. Here’s when, where
After millions of people in all 50 states showed out in protests on June 14, the No Kings Coalition is planning a second day of action this month. Currently, there are at least 16 protests for Oct. 18 planned around South Carolina, though organizers say more events could be added.
Protestors plan to take to the streets to speak out against President Donald Trump and what the coalition calls “his violent authoritarian attacks on our freedoms — including increasing militarization of our nation’s cities,” as well as the federal government shutdown.
In statements preparing for the Oct. 18 protests, the coalition said organizers are trained in de-escalation and working with local partners to ensure peace. The No Kings website touts a commitment to nonviolent action and says that weapons, even legally permitted ones, shouldn’t be brought to events.
Participating organizers around the country include groups like 50501, ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible, League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Nurses United, Public Citizen, SEIU, United We Dream and more.
An estimated 5 million people around the United States attended June’s protests, and organizers say Oct. 18 could be even bigger. According to the coalition, the number of protests planned this month has already surpassed the number of June 14 events.
Groups including No Kings South Carolina, 50501 South Carolina and South Carolina Indivisible chapters, are planning a statewide rally at the South Carolina Statehouse from 1 to 3 p.m., but at least 15 other protests are organized around the Palmetto State.
An interactive map with the latest locations planning protests is available on the No Kings website. Here are the South Carolina locations organized so far.
