Here’s how and where to get free wings in SC for National Chicken Wing Day
If you missed National Chicken Tender Day on Sunday you can make up for it Tuesday. It’s National Chicken Wing Day.
Various national chains are offering specials to honor the day proclaimed in 1977 by then-Buffalo Mayor Stan Makowski.
Check local websites for any specials in Columbia-area chicken wing restaurants — some are closed on Tuesdays — and a D’s Wings employee said simply, “everyday is wings day for us.”
Research firm Circana says in the past 12 months some 1.2 billion wings were ordered in U.S. restaurants, probably nothing Teressa Bellissimo, who owned Anchor Bar in Buffalo with her husband Frank, could have envisioned when she fried some chicken wings for her son and his buddies in 1964. She threw the wings, which she usually used for chicken stock, in some butter and hot sauce and as they say the rest is history.
John Young at Wings’n Things in Buffalo fried some wings in 1963, but he missed the distinction of first because he elected to use tomato sauce, according to the website nationalchickenwingday.com. Not quite trendy enough perhaps.

Buffalo Wild Wings — free wings with an order of $10 or more, dine in or order online.
Popeyes — in stores through Aug. 3, buy a six-piece Bone-In Wings, get a six-piece order free.
Wingstop — five free wings with a qualifying chicken purchase
Applebee’s — To-go order placed through the website or app, get another free. No third-party delivery
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s — Buy 10 and get five free, buy 20 and get 10 free, buy 30 and get 15 free. They’re not throwing in the bleu cheese and celery for free.
Dave & Buster’s — 20 wings for $20 in-store only.
Zaxby’s — Rewards program members get 10 free boneless wings from July 28 to Aug. 3.
Twin Peaks — Buy six wings and get six free. Smoked and grilled wings excluded from this offer.
7-Eleven - Rewards members get eight free boneless wings when they buy eight boneless wings or five free bone-in wings when they buy five bone-in wings at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores nationwide.
Whataburger — On the Whataburger App nine-piece WhataWings and get an order of the boneless wings free.
