SC man arrested for incident at gas station, cops say. There may be more victims
A South Carolina man was recently arrested on a voyeurism charge following an incident at a gas station near Interstate 26, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Joshua Searson, a 24-year-old Orangeburg resident, was arrested Tuesday, Calhoun County court records show.
The voyeurism charge is connected to a June 7 incident near I-26, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. It was a gas station on Burke Road, according to court records. Information about the gas station’s name and specific location was not available, but both a Mobil gas station and Pilot Travel Center are close to Exit 139 on I-26.
At about 3:30 a.m., Searson went into the women’s bathroom and look over the stall at the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was taken to the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center and Searson’s bond was set at $150,000, officials said. Bond has not been posted, court records show.
Should Searson be released, conditions of his bond say he will be placed under house arrest and the Orangeburg man must not have any contact with the victim and must not trespass at any gas stations or rest stops with public restrooms, or any changing rooms, according to court records.
Searson is scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 22, court records show.
During an investigation, several possible victims were seen on video but have not been identified, the sheriff’s office said. Anyone who believes they are also a victim of Searson is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-874-2741, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip online.
When the June 7 incident happened, Searson was out on bond following an April 11 arrest, Charleston County court records show. The Mount Pleasant Police Department arrested Searson, the sheriff’s office said.
Searson was taken into custody on two voyeurism charges in April, and bond was set at $25,000 on each count, according to Charleston County court records. He’s scheduled to appear again in a Charleston County court on the April arrest charges on Sept. 19, judicial records show.
