Teen hits another minor with car then crashes into Dollar Tree, SC cops say

Five people were recently charged following a violent encounter at a South Carolina Dollar Tree, including a teenager who hit another juvenile with a car before crashing into the store and a parked vehicle, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened at the Dollar Tree store at 618 Sumter Highway in Bishopville, the sheriff’s office said Sunday in a news release. That’s near Exit 116 on Interstate 20.

An ongoing dispute led to a fight in the Dollar Tree’s parking lot that involved a pair of young adults and three juveniles, according to the release. Information about the dispute was not available.

The juveniles have not been publicly identified because of their ages.

Following the fight, a 17-year-old hit another of the juveniles with a vehicle, which then crashed into the Dollar Tree store, the sheriff’s office said. The vehicle then rolled away from the store and crashed into another occupied vehicle in the parking lot, according to the release.

Celvin Hickman, a 19-year-old Bishopville resident, was charged with disorderly conduct and malicious injury to property, the sheriff’s office said.

Shamirah Blyther, a 24-year-old Bishopville resident, and two of the juveniles were charged with disorderly conduct, according to the release. The minors were released to the custody of their legal guardians, the sheriff’s office said.

A third juvenile also was charged with disorderly conduct, in addition to malicious injury to property (value $10,000 or more), malicious injury to property (value $2,000 or less) and attempted murder, according to the release. The 17-year-old juvenile is being charged as an adult because of their age and the seriousness of the charge, the sheriff’s office said.

This juvenile will be held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center pending a bond hearing as a result of the Raise the Age law passed in 2016 which mandates that although a juvenile, at the age of 17 must be charged as an adult for certain offenses, according to the release.
