When will SC election results be reported? Here’s when votes will be counted and certified

Election Day is less than a week away and voters around the United States will visit polling places to cast ballots in the general election.

In South Carolina, in-person voters can either vote early or on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. Early voters can cast their ballots at any polling location in their district from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm through Saturday, Nov. 2.

Election Day voters must visit their precinct between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. As long as a voter is in line at their polling place by 7:00 p.m., they are allowed to vote.

After those votes are in, the South Carolina Election Commission will report the unofficial results in real time on election night on scVOTES.gov. Depending on your county, results may also be reported locally by the county’s voter registration and elections board.

“We anticipate to have results for all offices and questions on the ballot reported by election night, or the early morning hours of the following day,” said South Carolina Election Commission public information officer John Michael Catalano.

However, those election night results aren’t official until they’re certified.

The Friday after an election, which will be Nov. 8 this year, county voter registration and elections boards add eligible provisional ballots and certifies the results of local, county-level elections for offices like sheriff, coroner and treasurer.

Then, the South Carolina Board of Canvassers has 10 days after the election to meet and certify state-level results. This year the board will meet on Thursday, Nov. 14, according to Catalano.
