SC restaurant co-owned by actor Bill Murray suddenly closes. Here’s what we know
Known for its popular burgers and celebrity ownership, Charleston restaurant Rutledge Cab Company has permanently closed. According to an abrupt announcement shared to social media on Monday afternoon, lunch that same day was the last meal served at the restaurant.
“It’s been our honor and privilege to serve our loyal customers. We are grateful for their friendship and patronage,” partner Brad Creger wrote in the Oct. 28 post. “We’d also like to thank our wonderful staff, past and present.”
Creger, an entrepreneur, co-owned Rutledge Cab Company with actor Bill Murray and baseball executive Mike Veeck. Together, the three renovated the abandoned gas station at 1300 Rutledge Ave. and opened the restaurant in 2012.
While Rutledge Cab Company closed its doors for good, Creger, Murray and Veeck will keep the property itself.
“We look forward to tossing the keys to a new tenant and watching from the sidelines as the property’s landlord,” the announcement said. “The decision to close Rutledge Cab Company will expedite that process and make way for a new restaurant to occupy this popular NoMo location.”
The posts shared to Facebook and Instagram didn’t detail reasons for Rutledge Cab Company’s closing or explain why the news was announced the same day the restaurant shut down.
