SC has one of 10 most affordable fall destination spots in US for Airbnb rentals. Take a look

Labor Day weekend generally marks the end of the summer tourist season in the Grand Strand, but as Myrtle Beach enters its “off-season,” vacation rental company Airbnb says autumn may be the best time to visit for frugal travelers.

In a report on 2024 fall travel trends, the company found that autumn was the most affordable season for Airbnb price-per-night accommodations last year. By comparing prices from June through August to September through November, the company identified 10 cities with the biggest savings in fall accommodations:

  • Bangor, ME

  • Cheyenne, WY

  • Erie, PA

  • Myrtle Beach, SC

  • Norfolk, VA

  • Omaha, NE

  • Panama City, FL

  • Somers Point, NJ

  • Spokane Valley, WA

  • West Des Moines, IA

As crowds, heat and humidity ease, there’s a lot to enjoy in the Grand Strand in the fall. By the time November rolls around, you may be less inclined to take a dip in the Atlantic, but there’s still plenty to do in Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas.

Destinations for shopping, dining and entertainment like Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing are evergreen no matter the season and less crowded outside the summer season.

Lower temperatures can also be a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Immerse yourself in the Lowcountry at Myrtle Beach State Park or Huntington Beach State Park, or check out botanical gardens, art, history and animals at Brookgreen Gardens.

Fall fishing is another popular activity in the Grand Strand and some fish also prefer the cooler weather. On an autumn fishing trip in the Grand Strand, you can catch species like redfish, tarpon and speckled sea trout.

The Myrtle Beach area also has some amazing fall festivals. Starting Sept. 12, the Society of Stranders begins its 10-day Fall Migration. Locals and visitors alike will come together in North Myrtle Beach to do the Shag–the iconic South Carolina swing dance.

Autumn in the Grand Strand also means motorcycle enthusiasts will gather for a week of riding and reveling in biker culture for the Myrtle Beach Bike Week Fall Rally. This year’s rally will run from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, but some local biker favorites will have events outside the official dates.

Anyone interested in Lowcountry cuisine won’t want to miss the Loris Bog-Off Festival on Oct. 19. Chicken bog, generally made with chicken, rice, sausage, spices and sometimes vegetables, is a South Carolina favorite and Bog-Off is the place to try it. In addition to the cooking competition, the festival will have live entertainment and hundreds of vendors..
