If you’ve ever driven around South Carolina and felt like you truly have your life in your hands, it might not just be paranoia.

The Palmetto State is the second most dangerous state to drive in, according to a new study.

A group of attorneys at Isaacs & Isaacs Personal Injury Lawyers, a Kentucky-based law firm, conducted research for the study.

South Carolina was just edged out by Mississippi for the top spot as most dangerous. Arkansas took the third place spot.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts snagged the top spot as the safest place to drive, the analysis shows.

The study analyzed the number of deaths per 100,000 people and the number of deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled in 2020. An index score out of 10 was given to each state to determine a ranking of the most dangerous states to drive in the US — the lower the score, the more dangerous the state.

For instance, South Carolina earned a 2.78 score out of 10, experiencing 20.7 deaths for every 100,000 people along. It also has 2.97 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles, the highest for any state by that measurement, the study adds.
