No matter the outcome between the Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday, downtown Columbia hotels are poised to be the real winners.
As of Wednesday, downtown Columbia hotel Saturday night rates were considerably higher than typical days — some twice as much as usual or even more.
The clash between number 1 Georgia and South Carolina begins at noon at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday. It’s a big game in which Georgia is expected to easily handle the Gamecocks. But with longtime college football rivalries, you can never be totally confident of the outcome.
In anticipation of the popular matchup, hotels downtown near the stadium are charging a premium for the weekend. As a consolation, visitors will be within walking distance of many restaurants downtown and at The Vista.
