These SC restaurants make Yelp’s list of top places in nation to eat for Mother’s Day
If you’re hoping to treat your mom to a special meal, a pair of South Carolina restaurants may have you covered.
That’s because the two Charleston dining destinations made it onto a list of the nation’s best places to eat for Mother’s Day.
The eateries — Church and Union Charleston, and Halls Chophouse — were named top spots to mark the occasion after the restaurant review website Yelp said it “identified businesses in the restaurant category with a large concentration of reviews mentioning the holiday, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews.”
The website also considered restaurants’ health grades and chose a maximum of three businesses in each U.S. metro area “to ensure geographic diversity,” according to the results published Thursday, April 28.
Of the 100 restaurants that were honored, the highest-ranking one in the Palmetto State was Church and Union Charleston at No. 13.
“Church and Union Charleston serves New American cuisine in a casual yet refined atmosphere,” the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page.
Some fans have taken to Yelp to rave about the restaurant’s past Mother’s Day buffets. Throughout the year, diners also couldn’t get enough of the customer service and dishes ranging from lamb ragu pasta to the fried chicken sandwich, helping the business earn 4 out of 5 stars.
Also earning a spot in the Yelp rankings was Halls Chophouse, which landed at No. 14. While the restaurant has a presence in three other South Carolina cities, the Charleston location has received nods for previous Mother’s Day offerings, including brunch staples.
At other times of the year, diners raved online about the servers and food. Many praised the Halls Chophouse steaks, which the restaurant said are “hand-selected, aged with their meticulous processes, and hand-cut to exact portion specifications.” In all, the dining spot has more than 4 out of 5 stars on Yelp.
Halls Chophouse is accustomed to receiving national recognition. In February 2021, the Charleston restaurant ranked among the best places to eat in the United States, McClatchy News reported.
On the latest Yelp list, the nation’s top-ranking spot for Mother’s Day was Cafe Monarch in Scottsdale, Arizona.
