It’s almost time for some Texas BBQ: Buc-ee’s in Florence finally sets opening date
The new Buc-ee’s travel center in Florence has finally set an opening date after a year and a half of work and months of delays.
Buc-ee’s expects its new gas station to have its grand opening on May 16, the company said in a statement. The company has been growing rapidly across the nation, with new outposts cropping up in Alabama Georgia and Florida in the last year. The location in Florence is the first Buc-ee’s to open in South Carolina.
WPDE first reported the news of the Buc-ee’s opening date.
Buc-ee’s is best known for having the “cleanest restrooms in Texas,” but it will also be serving Texas BBQ, selling its sweet treats called “beaver nuggets” and have 120 fueling stations. The gas station also has a wide selection of jerky, fresh pastries and homemade fudge, among other items. Want a Buc-ee’s T-shirt? It’s got that too.
Hiring is already underway for 175 jobs at the store, the company said. All of them have a starting pay of $18-$22 per hour with full benefits, including 401k matching, medical and dental insurance and three weeks of paid time off.
The 50,000-square-foot business shares its land with Francis Marion University’s new Fresh Water Ecology Research and Conference Center.
“When I look at what we’re doing here today, the significance of this, it shows the ability of the city and the county and the state to work together. I believe that working together, we have more power than we do apart,” Florence Mayor Teresa Myers, an alumna of Francis Marion University, said the day of the groundbreaking for the new Buc-ee’s in November 2020.
The arrival of Buc-ee’s in South Carolina was a big enough deal that even Gov. Henry McMaster attended the groundbreaking.
“It is a wonderful thing what is happening in South Carolina, and we can keep it up with the kind of leadership we have,” McMaster said at the groundbreaking, referencing economic development efforts around the state.
The new Buc-ee’s is located at 3390 North Williston Road in Florence.
