Pedestrian dies after being hit on I-26 in Lexington County
A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday morning while walking along Interstate 26 in Lexington County, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet truck was heading west on I-26 at about 7:10 a.m., when he hit a pedestrian who was walking across the roadway near the Interstate 77 North exit in Cayce, Master Trooper David Jones said.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene. The pedestrian, identified as 32-year-old Eric Timothy Teitloff, of Charleston, was prounced dead at the scene, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said.
The Highway Patrol, which is investigating the fatal collision, did not announce any charges against the driver.
There have been 868 traffic fatalities in South Carolina this year, including 39 in Lexington County, according to Department of Public Safety data.
