High school student dies after coming home from football practice, SC officials say
A South Carolina high school student died Tuesday after he came back from football practice, South Carolina officials say.
Amari President, 16, was found unresponsive at his house and rushed to Trident Medical Center, the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office said in a news release. The teenager was pronounced dead on Tuesday night, the release said.
President was a student at Ashley Ridge High School, where counselors will be available to help grieving students, officials told WCBD. The campus is in Summerville and roughly 20 miles northwest of Charleston.
An autopsy is expected to take place Friday, according to the coroner’s office, which is investigating the death.
Dorchester School District Two didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for information on Wednesday.
State Sen. Marlon Kimpson in a Facebook post said he was mourning the loss of the teenager, who volunteered for his campaign.
“He exhibited maturity and political instinct well beyond his years,” the Charleston Democrat wrote on Facebook. “As his names signifies, he was truly on his way to be President one day.”
