He’s been shot, run over and starved. Watch this puppy get a happy ending
After a pit bull puppy was shot with a rifle, run over by a car and starved in Alabama, he somehow survived — and was given a second chance at life at a rescue facility here in South Carolina.
Meet Archer. He’s a 6-month-old white pit bull who’s paralyzed and maneuvers around thanks to the help of a cart.
Noah’s Arks Rescue, a nonprofit organization in Okatie, has been posting updates on its website on Archer since he arrived at the rescue in November.
“This sweet puppy was covered with sores from dragging himself around,” the rescue wrote in one update. “He did this for five weeks with a gun shot wound to his spine, a broken leg and foot and broken pelvis. During all this time, the owner is no longer feeding him because he wants to starve him to death. The pain this sweet puppy has endured is beyond anything I could ever imagine.”
A volunteer with the Bigbee Humane Society in Demopolis, Ala., contacted Noah’s Arks Rescue needing help with the severely injured pup, and soon he was transported to the facility to save his life.
The rescue says Archer arrived paralyzed with a fractured foot that was infected and non-functional, which had to be removed during surgery. His other back leg was non-functional as well and had “horrible” sores on it, but he got to keep that leg.
“Our dear boy never gave up,” an update states. “He knew someone was going to come and save him and he was right. His owner did everything possible to kill him, and we are doing everything possible to save him. ”
Once Archer recovered from surgery, he was taken to the rehab facility in Okatie to learn how to live life as a paralyzed dog. The rescue even ordered him a custom cart to give him the ability to run and play again.
The rescue expressed in an update that Archer is still healing from all of his injuries, but his spirits are 1,000 percent better and he’s now up for adoption.
“His life of being abused and living on his own is now becoming a distant memory that will continue to improve,” the update states. “Sweet Archer may have a long list of disabilities, but his amazing determination to live and love has enabled him to survive his darkest days.”
Noah’s Arks Rescue is accepting donations to go towards Archer’s medical bills and recovery, and if you would like to help out you can do so by visiting: www.noahs-arks.net/donations/archer-white-pitbull.
According to the rescue, no charges have been pressed against the person that had Archer before he was rescued.
“The person that gave the dog up is now saying the dog was not theirs and he was a stray, and the authorities cannot prove otherwise,” an update explains.
