Two boys, ages 10 and 15, die after ‘tragic shooting’ in North Carolina, cops say
A child and a teenager died after a “tragic shooting” in Western North Carolina, officials said.
The boys, ages 10 and 15, were found with gunshot wounds when deputies responded to their home on Sunday, March 27, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The boys were rushed to a nearby medical center and then flown to Asheville for treatment. Both later died at Mission Hospital in Asheville, according to officials.
The two were identified in news releases as 10-year-old Bridger Owen Ensley and 15-year-old Noah Joseph Ensley.
Their uncle, Tommy Ensley, told WHNS that the two were brothers who were close even though their personalities were different.
“They were very, very close and they loved each other,” their uncle said, according to the TV station.
Officials in their news releases didn’t share how the boys were related or reveal additional circumstances about the shooting. A 911 caller reported the incident on Ferguson Road in Sylva, roughly 45 miles southwest of the mountain town of Asheville.
As of March 29, deputies said the shooting was an “isolated incident” that was still under investigation. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation reportedly was helping in the case.
“The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office staff extends our deepest sympathy to the Ensley Family,” Sheriff Chip Hall wrote in a statement. “Please continue to pray for this family, their friends, and our community.”
