North Carolina

Here we go again? More winter weather possible Friday, with up to a few inches of snow.

Snowy weather appears headed for the Triangle again this week, with a dusting on Thursday and a few inches of buildup possible for the weekend.

The National Weather Service reports an Arctic front heading toward the Raleigh area, starting with cold rain on Thursday and a dusting of snowflakes as the air turns colder.

After a quick breather, the winter weather returns on Friday afternoon, said meteorologist Gail Hartfield.

The weather is still too far off to be certain, but Triangle could see rounds of precipitation Friday afternoon through Sunday.

The biggest chance for snow accumulation happens Friday night into Saturday, Hartfield said, when a few inches of snow could develop.

The upcoming wintry weather follows snow that mostly hit Western North Carolina last Sunday, but still coated the Triangle with ice after sleet and freezing rain.

Icy roads persisted in some counties and forced school closings and delays Tuesday.
