Two people were rushed to a burn center after officials said a home exploded in North Carolina.

Now, there’s an investigation into the cause of the explosion in the mountain town of Fletcher, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Ronald Van Blarcum lives in the area and told WLOS he called 911 when his home shook on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Soon, he saw two men at his door with burn injuries.

“It’s a very rough road, it’s steep,” Van Blarcum said, according to the TV station. “And for them to have both climbed out of the what I believe I can see is rubble of the basement and getting down here was no easy fix for them.”

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said first responders received several emergency calls at about 1 p.m. and went to a home near Kyles Creek Road. The area is roughly 20 miles south of the tourist destination Asheville.

At the scene, officials said two people hurt in the explosion were flown to a burn center. Video from WYFF shows a smoke-like substance billowing from where a house once stood.

“The Henderson County Fire Marshalls Office along with Fletcher Fire & Rescue are currently conducting the investigation to determine the cause of the explosion,” deputies said in a Nov. 17 news release.

Officials told news outlets the investigation isn’t criminal in nature.
