Person with multiple guns in vehicle arrested on UNC-Chapel Hill campus, police say

UNC Police arrested a man who was found sleeping with multiple firearms in his car on the Chapel Hill campus on Tuesday morning.

Joseph John Radomski, 39 of Burlington, was charged with felony possession of weapons on school property. The police report shows he had a semi-automatic rifle, a bolt action rifle, four other firearms and at least 17 rounds of ammunition in his car, plus a knife and a machete.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

A UNC Hospitals security officer found Radomski sleeping in his car in the Campus Heath parking lot around 6 a.m. Tuesday. The officer then found multiple firearms in the car, according to the university.

Radomski, who records show is homeless, was immediately detained by UNC Hospitals Police, then taken into custody by UNC Police.

He was turned over to the Orange County Magistrate in Hillsborough.

Radomski has dozens of criminal offenses listed in his record dating back to 2001, including charges related to traffic violations, firearms, assault, domestic violence protection orders and driving while impaired, court records show.

UNC Police sent out a campus alert to UNC-CH students, faculty and staff around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
