Here is the latest COVID-19 data for Wake, Durham and Orange counties
A week into Phase 2.5 of the state’s reopening plan, the percent positive rate of COVID-19 tests in the Triangle is around the state’s goal of 5% or less.
Under Phase 2.5, playgrounds and museums were allowed to reopen, and the size of gatherings was increased.
Triangle residents remembered the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in socially distant, small group ceremonies on Friday, with limited attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions. In a brief speech at National Guard headquarters in Raleigh, Gov. Roy Cooper called COVID-19 a slow moving crisis.
“The year 2020 is testing our mettle again,” he said.
Ongoing outbreaks continue at Triangle nursing homes and jails.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reports ongoing clusters at child-care and school settings. As of Sept. 11, Kreepers and Krawlers Daycare in Wake County had 10 cases: four among staff and six among children.
Durham County had five cases at Child Care Network No. 58, as the facility is described in the DHHS data. There were no reported clusters at child-care and school settings in Orange County as of Sept. 11.
There are still several ongoing outbreaks at congregate-care facilities in the Triangle, according to DHHS.
▪ Wake County has 12 ongoing outbreaks at nursing homes. The largest outbreak is at The Laurels of Forest Glenn with 98 cases. Wake County also has nine outbreaks at residential-care facilities.
▪ Durham County has eight ongoing outbreaks at nursing homes. The largest outbreak is at Carver Living Center (Rehabilitation), with 120 cases. Durham also has two outbreaks at residential-care facilities.
▪ Orange County has three ongoing outbreaks at nursing homes and two outbreaks at residential-care facilities.
There are also ongoing outbreaks at Triangle jails. The Durham County Detention Center has 29 cases; Wake County Detention Center has 26 cases and Orange County Detention Center has four cases of COVID-19, according to DHHS.

In the Triangle, Durham County has the most coronavirus cases per resident, according to DHHS. The data below is as of noon Sept. 12.
Triangle case counts:
Wake County has 16,219 cases and 213 deaths. There are 148 cases per 10,000 residents.
Durham County has 7,267 cases and 87 deaths. There are 229 cases per 10,000 residents.
Orange County has 2,501 cases and 54 deaths. There are 171 cases per 10,000 residents.
Percent of positive tests:
Wake County’s percent positive for COVID-19 testing is 5.1%. Durham County’s is 4% and Orange County’s is 4.1%.
Noteworthy:
The Orange County Health Department’s weekly update on Friday said it is missing race and ethnicity data for 30% to 40% of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Wake County Health is offering free COVID-19 testing next week at the Sunnybrook building parking deck, 2925 Holston Lane in Raleigh. The drive-through testing will be available Sept. 14-15 and Sept. 17-19. You can register at covid-19testingregistration.wakegov.com.
State officials continue to urge people to wear masks, stay at least six feet apart, and wash hands often to help control the spread of COVID-19. North Carolina has a statewide mask mandate.
