This North Carolina city is among the best in US for new graduates, report finds

North Carolina is home to one of the best U.S. cities for recent graduates, a new report finds.

Raleigh was ranked the No. 2 place for people to kick off a new chapter after finishing school — and another Triangle city wasn’t far behind, according to results updated on Wednesday.

Durham took the 11th spot on the nationwide list, findings from the apartment website Zumper show.

To come up with the rankings, Zumper says it analyzed apartment data to find out the median rent in the “top 100 U.S. cities.” It also looked at each location’s share of restaurants as well as income and population figures for younger adults, according to the results.

Among the metrics was the March 2020 unemployment rate. Millions of people across the country have filed for jobless benefits since early March, the month states started to implement restrictions to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

In the report, Raleigh ranked in the top half for all categories under consideration.

“This city performed especially well with its high population of individuals with Bachelor’s degrees, which means there are many relatable people with similar educational backgrounds to this year’s new grads, and ranked in the top 20 for median income,” Zumper said in its findings.

It wasn’t the first time Raleigh earned recognition as a good place to land after graduation.

Last month, the city snagged a No. 30 spot on a list of best locations for recent college graduates. Financial website SmartAsset said it looked at jobs, affordability and entertainment options in 115 cities.

In 2019, Business Insider gave Raleigh a No. 14 ranking on a list of top cities for people finishing college. The website said it studied young adult populations and cost-of-living trends in 260 metropolitan areas.

In the recent Zumper report, other North Carolina cities in the rankings include Greensboro at No. 22; Charlotte at No. 41; and Winston-Salem at No. 73.

Overall, Salt Lake City was named the best place in the country to start a life after graduation. Newark, New Jersey, ended up at the bottom of the rankings, results show.
