North Carolina lottery player doesn’t have ‘any excuse’ not to follow dream after win

A North Carolina man’s dream can finally come true after winning a $1 million lottery prize.

Paul Dehart from Rockingham County stopped at a Harvest Ridge store in Ruffin and bought a $1,000,000 WIN IT ALL scratch-off lottery ticket for $10, according to a release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

When he scratched the ticket and saw he won the $1 million jackpot, he couldn’t believe it, the release says.

“This is unbelievable,” he told lottery officials. “It feels great.”

Dehart told lottery officials he’s going to use the money to flip houses, which is a dream of his.

“I’ve already got my first house,” he said, according to lottery officials. “Having this means I don’t have any excuse not to do it. It’s the start of a new dream.”

Dehart got to choose between a lump sum of $600,000 or 20 annual payments of $50,000, the lottery says. He chose the lump sum and took home $424,503 after taxes.

The ticket launched with four top prizes, but now only one is left, the lottery says.
