The most popular toy in North Carolina this Christmas is a planted doll. Seriously.
If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for a child in North Carolina, a new study may be helpful.
A study done by Reviews.org used Google Trends to find the most “popular,” or most-searched-for, Christmas gifts nationwide and in each state this holiday season.
The most popular Christmas gift nationwide and in 11 states this year is a Nerf gun, the study found, followed by a Nintendo Switch in second place, and American Girl dolls and Play-Doh tied for third place.
But none of these classic gifts are the most popular in North Carolina. Instead, it’s a Blume doll.
These dolls grow out of the flower pots they’re sold in when a sprinkle of water is added, the company’s website says. It’s a mystery which doll will grow out of each pot.
Blume dolls were also the most popular toy in New Jersey.
South Carolina is sticking to more traditional toys, with Play-Doh being the most popular in the state.
Other popular toys across the country are a Toy Story 4 Buzz Lightyear action figure, Scruff-a-Luvs, Owleez and the Barbie Playset, the study found.
Scruff-a-Luvs are plush toys that arrive as “a sad, matted ball of fur” that need to be bathed, brushed and taken care of the, the toy’s website says. Owleez are “interactive” baby owls that have to be taught how to fly, according to Amazon.
