Horry County school board candidates face off in primary. A newcomer beat out incumbent

An incumbent in the Horry County School Board Republican primary election has lost her seat, according to unofficial results Tuesday.

Darrell Ricketts defeated Shanda Allen to represent District 11 on the board, according to results from all precincts reporting.

Ricketts won with 63% of the vote. Allen received 29% of the vote.

Allen has represented District 11 since 2016.

There are no Democratic candidates running for the seat.

Jennifer Gaskins, a third candidate, was on the ballot but dropped out before Tuesday’s primary. She instead told people to vote for Ricketts.

Gaskins received 8% of the vote.
