Myrtle Beach voters fill last council seat in runoff election. Here’s who they picked
In a tight runoff Tuesday, newcomer Bill McClure won a seat on the Myrtle Beach City Council, beating incumbent John Krajc, according to unofficial results.
As of 8:04 p.m. all 16 precincts had reported and McClure won by 121 votes. The votes will be certified at 3 p.m. Nov 22 at City Hall.
In total, McClure earned 1,811 and Krajc earned 1,690 votes. During the general election on Nov. 7, Krajc beat McClure by 49 votes which called for a run-off, as reported by The Sun News.
“I’m very, very happy that I’ve won, but there’s more work to do now. I’ve got to start to prepare to be on council,” McClure said.
McClure is retired and has been involved in Myrtle Beach for nearly a decade. He ran on installing independent wards to give more control to citizens and better updating safety infrastructure to account for the growth of Myrtle Beach.
Krajc said while the loss hurts, he’s proud of what he accomplished while on council.
“I am so proud of what’s been done the last four years and so honored to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Myrtle Beach in an elected capacity. It’s not everyday that someone that is 30 years old, gets elected to serve,” Krajc said. “It’s been a dream.”
