New members take seats on Aynor council after defeating incumbents, unofficial results show
New members can be expected to sit on the Town of Aynor’s Town Council, according to unofficial election results Tuesday.
Lori Beatty, Landon Johnson and Paula Creel Floyd took home the most votes for the Aynor Town Council, according to results provided by Floyd.
Both Beatty and Johnson secured more votes over incumbents Steve Riggins and Chris Shelley. Beatty received 65 votes and Johnson 130 votes, while Riggins received 48 votes and Shelley 57, according to results provided by Floyd. A fifth candidate, Nolan Thompson, won 28 votes.
Johnson is an assistant principal at Johnsonville Elementary School and was a member of the Coastal Carolina University football team when it first formed. Johnson said he got into the race after hearing from residents and businesses and some of their complaints.
“We have to be as a unit, forward-thinking,” Johnson said in an interview with The Sun News. “We need to make this a welcoming town for new and old.”
Floyd received the most ballots cast for an unexpired town council seat with 106 votes. Second-place finisher Benjamin Jordan got 66.
Floyd said prior to Nov. 7 her goals in office will be government transparency, accountability and being friendly to local businesses.
