Myrtle Beach native Heather Ammons Crawford kept a state House seat that runs through the middle of fast growing Horry County in Republican hands on Nov. 8, easily fending off a challenge from Democrat Ernest Carson.

According to unofficial results and with all precincts reporting, Crawford had 72 percent of the vote to Carson’s 27 percent, taking 766 votes to Carson’s 4,144. There were also 11 write-ins. Results will be certified by county election officials in the coming days.

Crawford’s win keeps intact one of Horry County’s biggest political power couples. Her husband Cam is on the county council.

Ammons Crawford’s district straddles S.C. Highway 544 and includes some of the county’s largest commercial areas.

In remarks before polls closed, Crawford thanked constituents for sending her back to Columbia. She’s a member of the influential budget writing committee and a member of Gov. Henry McMaster’s Floodwater Commission.
