Myrtle Beach singalong with Tulsi Gabbard? Presidential hopeful spent Christmas Eve in SC
With the 2020 Iowa Caucuses inching nearer, one Democratic presidential hopeful took a bit of a break in Myrtle Beach on Christmas Eve.
“We are here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,” Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard said in a Twitter video late Tuesday night from the backseat of a car alongside husband Abraham Williams with the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel showing through the window. “We got in last night. It was pouring down rain all day long. It was really nice to wake up to sunshine this morning. It’s been a beautiful day. We just finished dinner and we’re gonna be headed to a Christmas Eve mass here shortly.”
As Williams, known for his musical abilities, played a stringed instrument, Gabbard reflected on issues in the world before asking followers to join her and her husband in singing “O Holy Night.”
“We just wanted to pause, to stop for a moment. You know, there’s so much war in the world, there’s so much talk of more war. We see headline after headline about North Korea, saber rattling and, look, people here at home there’s so much struggling and suffering. It’s going on every single day,” she said. “We just wanted to pause for a moment. We wanted to invite you to join us to sing this song about love and peace as on Christmas Eve we celebrate the prince of peace, Jesus Christ. I hope you’ll join us.”
Williams and Gabbard then begin a duet of O Holy Night, which had garnered more than 7,200 likes and 942 retweets by Wednesday evening.
Gabbard is one of 14 candidates who made the cut for South Carolina’s “First in the South” presidential primary Feb. 29. She’s had a presence here for some time with billboards in the area.
Nationally, Gabbard is among the bottom four of the 13 candidates included in a CNN poll released Dec. 19.
