David Cox clinches Board of Ed District 4 seat in runoff
Horry County Board of Education District 9 incumbent David Cox clinched the District 4 seat in a runoff with challenger Scott Thompson Tuesday night.
It was a close race as ballots started rolling in with Thompson holding onto the lead by a few votes. An hour after the polls closed, however, Cox regained the lead garnering a total of 508 votes (53.03 percent) compared to Thompson’s 450 votes (46.97 percent), according to unofficial results.
Both Cox and Thompson received less than 50 percent of the vote during the primary, firing up a runoff between the two candidates.
Cox moved from Loris to The Market Common in Myrtle Beach in 2014, resulting in his run for the District 4 seat.
