UPDATED: Myrtle Beach municipal election filings are open. Here’s who’s running

The filing period for municipal elections in the City of Myrtle Beach officially opened at noon on Friday, August 22.

A week later, there are four candidates running for mayor and six candidates running for city council, according to lead city spokesperson Meredith Denari.

On Friday, Aug. 29, here’s who has filed to run for office so far:

Brenda Bethune

Eva Perez Rigney

Mark Kruea

Daniel Aumen

Council

Jackie Hatley

Kenya Staten Hennigan

Mike Lowder

Phil Render

Terrance Butler

Nick Vaugh

Bethune and Kruea both previously announced their official intent to run for office in March, according to Sun News reporting.

A Friday Fax memo states that the filing period for candidates ends on Friday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m. Candidates must file in-person with City Clerk Jennifer Adkins at Myrtle Beach’s City Hall, 937 Broadway Street, the memo read.

Myrtle Beach elections are non-partisan and at-large. Elected officials serve four-year terms, with those elected serving from 2025 to 2029, according to the City of Myrtle Beach.
