Political events this week along the Grand Strand

Democrats

▪ North Strand Democrats will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mick & Mikes Sports Bar at 1008 Highway 17 S., North Myrtle Beach. For information, contact Brian or Roberta at 272-6454. Facebook us at North Strand Democrats

▪ Horry County Democratic Party will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Bonefish Grill at 7401 North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. Happy hour discount prices last through 6:30 p.m. For information, contact Saxena via scsaxen@yahoo.com

▪ Beach Dems Breakfast will be 8 to 9 a.m. Friday at Akels Restaurant, corner of 65th Avenue N. and Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. This month’s speaker will be Jason Perkey, the new Executive Director of SCDP. For information, contact Sally P. Howard at 843-455-1936 or sallyphoward@aol.com.

▪  HCDP Yard Sale Fundraiser will be on Saturday in the parking lot at the HCDP office, 900 Fourth Avenue in Conway. $15 per table or $10 per space, first come first served. Volunteers needed to help with an HCDP general table, which will sell items that are dropped off on the day of the sale before 9 a.m. Unsold items from this table cannot be returned, but will be donated to charity. Set up at 6 a.m. and sales from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rain date is May 23rd. Call Grace at 365-6654 or leave message at office at 488-4237.

▪ South Enders will meet at 6 p.m. May 14 at Borgata Restaurant (upstairs bar), 813 Surfside Drive, Surfside Beach. For information, contact Bonnlyn Cobb at southendersdems@gmail.com and visit www.southenders.org.

Republicans

▪ Georgetown County Federation of Republican Women and the Georgetown Republican Party will have presidential hopeful and neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson as guest speaker Friday.

Carson will speak at the free noon event at Winyah Auditorium at 1200 Highmarket St. in Georgetown.

Later that day, Carson is expected to visit Plantersville Elementary School for cookies and milk with students and parents, according to Ruth Sherlock, who works with Carson in South Carolina.

Space is limited at the Winyah Auditorium event and those wishing to attend are asked to reserve a seat by contacting Judy Clarke at judyclarke32@gmail.com.

There also will be a private event for those wishing to meet and speak with Carson. To attend the private event, checks can be made payable to GCFRW and mailed to GCFRW @ Renee, P.O. Box 823, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
