Democrats

▪ The South Enders will meet 6 p.m. Thursday in the upstairs bar at Borgata Restaurant, 813 Surfside Drive in Surfside Beach. This months guest speaker will be Lauren Bilton, candidate for S.C. Democratic Party Third Vice Chair.

▪ The Beach Dems will meet 8 a.m. Friday at Akel’s Pancake House, located at the corner of 65th Avenue NOrth and Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. Bilton will again serve as the guest speaker. A breakfast buffet will be available for $7.

▪ The Westside Democrats will hold their spring social 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Coppers Restaurant, located at 201 Laurel St. in Conway. Tickets to the event are $12 and will be available at the door. They also can be purchased from club members.

▪ The Democratic Women’s Council of Horry County will meet 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Luigi’s Trattoria, 503 61st Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach. For more information, contact Pam Heller at 487-5020 or pheller1@sc.rr.com.

The Democratic Women’s Council of Horry County also has announced it’s 2015 scholarship contest, which awards college scholarships to Horry County residents.

This year, the contest features one $1,000 scholarship awarded to an Horry County high school senior for the best 1,000-1,500 word essay on the topic, “how Democratic values make my life better.”

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior for their black-and-white artwork, submitted in a JPG format, that includes the title theme and could be used as the scholarship essay contest booklet cover.

The deadline for all entries is April 30.

The entry form and rules are available to download at the DWCHC website,www.dwchc.com.

Republicans

▪ The Greater Carolina Forest Republican Women's Club will meet 11:30 a.m. April 20 at Sam Snead's Oak Grill Restaurant, 1004 Glenforest Road, near the intersection of Carolina Forest Boulevard and U.S. Highway 501.

Bo Ives, former president of the Carolina Forest Civic Association and member of the RIDE III committee, will be the speaker. Ives is expected to discuss the latest news from RIDE III and how it may impact the roads in Carolina Forest.

The luncheon meeting is open to everyone. The club welcomes new members from the Carolina Forest area and men may become associate members.
